Pentagon moves to lock in Palantir Maven as a core AI system
A deputy secretary memo put Palantir's Maven Smart System on a path to program-of-record status across the joint force.
On March 20, Reuters reported that Deputy Defense Secretary Steve Feinberg directed Palantir's Maven Smart System toward official program-of-record status, framing AI-enabled decision advantage as essential across domains. Oversight was steered toward the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office, with broader adoption expected through the fiscal year.
## The signal Weapons-adjacent AI is leaving the pilot lab. Long-term funding and joint stewardship mean Maven-shaped workflows will show up in more targeting and fusion shops.
## What to watch Contract ceilings, service adoption rates, and whether rival decision aids still get fair fights. Standardizing a core system can speed the force. It can also concentrate risk. Healthy programs keep both speed and an off-ramp.
